11-27-2025 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, and Thanksgiving Day! No mail today, of course. But speaking of mail, I just read an article on the Postal Times website about counterfeit postage stamps that might disrupt some Christmas packages. Postal Inspectors say the current counterfeit stamps are very good and hard to tell from genuine stamps, but the Post Office can tell and will be returning any letters or packages using the bogus postage. I see more and more "discounted" forever stamps in the Extra Income Mail Order publications these days. In my humble opinion, when a 78¢ stamp is being sold for less than 20¢, it should set off alarms. It's amazing that the very people who need the Post Office (Mail Order Dealers) would try to put it out of business. Also on the Postal Times website were reports of six mail truck fires, so far, this month.
--- Sometimes, the mail is amusing. Yesterday, I received an offer for a program of some sort that was "so easy a monkey could do it." Also in the mail was the world-famous, probably original, "My name is (enter phony name here), and I am an attorney" chain letter. This one will never die. Do you still get those?
--- From the Federal News Network - U.S. Postal Service sees $9 billion loss in Fiscal Year 2025, the Census Bureau will test using postal workers as Census takers, over 10,000 postal workers have taken early retirement.
--- Quoting the U.S. Postal Service: "Scammers peddle fake stamps on social media marketplaces, e-commerce sites via third-party vendors, and other websites. Counterfeit stamps are often sold in bulk quantities at a significant discount–anywhere from 20 to 50 percent of their face value." The article goes on to say that if you even accidentally use a counterfeit stamp, it's a federal crime. Yep, Post Office for me!
11-26-2025 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. Because we have no mail delivery tomorrow, here's hoping you get twice as much good mail today. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!
--- I stopped by a nearby small, locally-owned restaurant to pick up a "to-go" order. While I waited, someone came up from the kitchen, wearing rubber gloves. Cool, except they came from behind the counter and opened the public-use cold drink cooler to retrieve a drink. What's the point of wearing gloves to protect the food if you drag germs back to the kitchen? At a national chain restaurant, I saw an employee wearing those clear food-serving gloves taking a smoke break in his car. I watched him walk back to the restaurant. The bottom line? We're all going to die anyway, so I guess we should worry about something else and be glad we don't see everything that goes on behind the scenes.
--- Education is a wonderful thing but it doesn't go far enough. It merely teaches a person how to speak, not when or how long. And neither does it teach them exactly when to shut up.
--- In the news - Private payroll losses accelerated, 10-year Treasury yield declines, Shoppers curtail Black Friday plans, Device hoarding by Americans is costing the economy.
--- From the U.S. Federal Trade Commission - Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule - The Rule, issued in 1975, requires sellers who solicit buyers to order merchandise through the mail, via the Internet, or by phone to have a reasonable basis to expect that the sellers can ship within the advertised time frame, or, if no time frame is specified, within 30 days. The Rule also requires that, when a seller cannot ship within the promised time, the seller must obtain the buyer’s consent to a delay in shipping or refund payment for the unshipped merchandise.
--- Not too long ago, I received this email: Inactive Email Account Verification - We require account verification, as there will be mass deletion of inactive accounts. This is our annual routine removal effort, so you can stay smooth using our service. Please verify your email account within 24 hours of receiving this notification. so that our automatic system does not lock email accounts that are detected as inactive emails. (Nice try!)
--- A bargain is defined as a "ludicrous transaction in which each party thinks he has cheated the other."
--- Instead of jump-starting a new program by filling in those empty spaces with family members, give them to other active dealers. It looks a lot better, and they'll probably mail more circulars as your wife and kid will. That's my opinion, but I don't do programs, so what do I know?
