12-03-2025 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! There has been some "glitching" on the site over the last few days, but we finally figured it out. Hopefully, we should have smooth sailing, or surfing, here on out. Recent news reports indicate certain economic sectors have also been glitching. This might be a signal for some to get that “extra income” business up and running, or expanded if you're already in business. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
--- In the news - Delayed tariff impact starting to hit, Bessent says no recession in 2026, Core wholesale prices rose less than expected, Small businesses cut 120,000 jobs.
+++ If things don't change for the better, the day is not far off when employees will demand the deductions instead of the pay.
--- A few years ago, there was a story on the Postal Times website about a mail sorter in North Royalton, Ohio, being accused of stealing over $33,000 in checks and money orders from the mail. In another case, a former postal worker admitted to stealing credit cards and stimulus checks while on his route. I like to tell people that, in 32 years of sending and receiving small amounts of cash by mail, I've never lost a dime. I don't think this is a widespread enough problem to lose sleep over. I have heard horror stories about sending cash to Mexico.
--- Every so often, I visit YouTube to amuse myself with the "get rich quick" videos. One young man, sharing his secret tips, also unknowingly revealed his username and password for the program site he was discussing. These items were clearly visible on a form on his desk. I hope he didn't get hacked.
--- Are you old enough to remember when the McDonald's sign would read Millions Served? In later years, that would change to Billions Served. Then, one day, they dropped that indicator altogether. Years ago, on a Texas highway, I saw a billboard ad for a locally owned hamburger joint that ended with "Hundreds Served."
12-02-2025 - Good Morning! It's 5:00 AM Tuesday, and 24 degrees at the Dealer Ad Exchange HQ. I have a fireplace video running on the office big screen TV while my coffee is brewing. I have a small stack of "site announcement" postcards ready to mail. I mailed a similar ad to Small Potatoes Magazine yesterday. On my desk is a copy of "How To Start and Operate a Profitable Homemade Booklet Business" by Don Massey, copyright 1993. Don published a very interesting "home video" of how he operated his booklet business, from picking up the mail and going through orders, to showing how his "mailroom" operates. Don also wrote booklets on making money in used car sales. Maybe you've seen, or owned, some of Don's booklets. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
--- A few years ago, I read a story about a USPS Postal Carrier who got prison time for not only hand-delivering drugs while on his route, but also recruiting other carriers to keep the operation going when he had to go on disability leave. I wonder if any of those assistants got busted. These things always blow up in your face. It's just a matter of time.
--- In the news - Mom-and-Pop Business Bankruptcies Hit Record, Apartment rents drop further, Vacancies at recoerd high.
--- Do you remember FarmVille on Facebook? It's been over a decade, but I worked with a couple who said they were addicted to that game and would spend hours playing after work and on their days off. Cool, except for the fact that they admitted to being heavily in debt and had credit ratings about as low as you can go and still buy something. Even so, they chose FarmVille over some other activity that might earn them a few dollars instead of costing them dollars through their purchases of Farm Coins and Farm Cash. As with just about everything in life, it's all about choices.
--- From the U.S. Federal Trade Commission - Greystar, the nation’s largest multi-family rental property manager, has agreed to pay $23 million to the Federal Trade Commission and $1 million to the State of Colorado and stop its deceptive advertising practices to resolve charges that the company misled consumers about monthly rent costs by tacking on hidden fees on top of advertised prices. The proposed order also requires the company to clearly and conspicuously display total monthly leasing prices and mandatory fees.
